Colostomy Irrigation for Bowel Cancer & Colon Cancer

This is a 9 minute video for people who have had bowel cancer surgery and now have a colostomy. So many people with a colostomy do not know about colostomy irrigation and how it can get freedom and normality back into ones life. This video is an instructional guide on how to do a colostomy irrigation and I hope should be a great help to those who have had bowel cancer surgery. If you have any questions or need support please email me to lifespantrust@gmail.com

    Thank you so very much for sharing this part of your life with others that they may also experience some semblance of freedom. He uses the Hollister ostomy patch after the irrigation is complete and is able to go 2 days now.

    I ordered my first irrigation kit today and naturally went looking for some info and came across your video.
    Thanks so much!
    I’ve had my colostomy for 3 years now, after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 44.

    @jlh945
    I hope you never have to make that choice then.
    For me, as with most ostomates, it was a life or death decision. I chose to live, obviously. I get to see my kids grow up now. : )

    No we did not renovate our toilet room or bathroom it just happens we have a wash basin close to the toilet which is convenient

  • junewaywong:

    @Lifespanz Thanks for your info. I wonder if you renovated your washroom for this purpose?

  • Lifespanz:

    Irrigation is done with a special irrigation set that you get from your doctor or stoma nurse you put the one piece pouch or mini pouch on after you have irrigated

  • Tomyslady1:

    Is there a way to irragate with a one piece ostomy pouch?

    Someone asked what sort of bags and caps I use If I am going out somehwere flash and have to look good, LOL or to play Rugby. I use a mini Dansac 829-25. Normal every day I use a Coloplast midi 46349 Ileave this on after irrigation until it starts filling up anything from 24 to 48 hours then I irrigate again. Welland are bringing out an improved flush down the toilet colostomy bag I am looking forward to trialing this. My thoought for the day life should be fun go shit stir friends and family

  • junewaywong:

    @Lifespanz Thanks for the video. This is very useful as someone in my family has started irrigation about a month ago. Now working on the 750–800ml range and still experimenting what volume works best. It seems to depend on body size as well. May I ask what kind of stoma cap you’re using?
